A common experience, worth understanding
Many women notice a significant increase in hair shedding two to four months after giving birth. This postpartum phase, known as telogen effluvium, is a recognised response to the hormonal shift that occurs after pregnancy. During pregnancy, elevated oestrogen levels keep hair in the growth phase longer; after delivery, levels drop and more hairs enter the shedding phase simultaneously.
While it is largely physiological, the experience can be distressing. Understanding what is happening and having a personalised programme in place can make a real difference.
Common signs
- Noticeably more hair in the shower, brush or on pillows
- A feeling of reduced density or volume
- A wider parting or a lighter feeling to the hair overall
- Usually begins two to four months after delivery
What Kronocare does
The check-up allows the condition of the scalp and hair fibre to be assessed in detail, distinguishing postpartum telogen effluvium from other possible contributing factors. Based on the assessment, a personalised cosmetic protocol is proposed to support the scalp environment and hair recovery. The protocol may include targeted Hair Lab treatments and a home-care routine.
